It was sent by her son, Lieut. Vernon Fowles, who is in England and was in the raid. He reports the lawns and streets were strewed with the leafllets which tried to show the failure'" of the Commando raid. Lieutenant Fowles said they were greatly exaggerated .... Paul B. Kelley has notice of a cablegram from his son, Paul, Jr., who is in the U. S. Merchant Marine Officers Training school some where in the Pacific. It was the first news from him in six weeks. . . . . Mrs. J. E. Morgan’sson in-law is now Lt. Col. Preston B. Mayson and aide to General Bry den. He is now at N. Falmouth, Mass.A letter from Capt. Bill Ward, Jr., of the Marines on Gaudalcanal Island states that he saw Frank Wall on September 2 and that the Marine unit there was in fine shape. Sbme of the in teresting points in Capt. Bill Ward’s letter written on Septem ber 3 from the Gaudalcanal Is land in the Solomons were: The last letter he had. received from home was written July 19th. The Marines have plenty of sulphur drugs, but tooth paste, shaving cream, writing paper, etc., are hard to get. He lost his fountain pen and had to use a Jap pen. -Continued m Back Page_
